Europe is the western fifth of the Eurasian land mass and is regarded as its own continent, although it is actually a subcontinent that forms a continent with Asia. Europe extends to the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to the North and West, and to the Ural Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea to the East and South. All together it has an area of approximately 10.5 million square kilometers, making it the second smallest continent next to Australia. Europe is home to approximately 730 million inhabitants.

For many South Americans and Africans, Europe is a place of dreams. It is a widespread belief that Europeans are rich and have hardly any problems. Job market issues and poverty are not a part of their picture. Many dream of traveling to Europe and becoming successful there.

The Freundeskreis Tambacounda strives to reconstruct false perceptions of Europe to give the people a more accurate picture, just as we educate people in Europe about Africa. Europe also has problems with poverty, unemployment, violence, and illnesses that burden the lives of many. Racism and discrimination against foreigners must be brought into discussion so that it can be prevented in the future.
